Re: 1992-1995 MX-3 Front Coil Springs
Recall Campaign #70709
Dear Mazda Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a recall campaign for the front coil spring on the 1992-1995
MX-3 models which are registered and operate in the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia,
Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. In those areas, large quantities of road-salt are used in the winter
seasons.
Mazda has determined that on some 1992-1995 MX-3 models, large quantities of road-salt, used during the
winter months in the above areas, may cause corrosive pits to develop on the front suspension coil springs.
Repeated use under these conditions may cause the bottom portion of the coil springs to fatigue and break. If
coil spring breakage occurs, the tire may be punctured by the unseated spring, resulting in a potential loss of
control of the vehicle.
To prevent the broken coil spring from contacting the tire, your Mazda dealer will install guard assemblies
to the front damper, on a free charge basis. Please schedule an appointment with your Mazda dealer to have the
Recall repair performed on your vehicle. The work takes approximately 30 minutes. In addition to performing this
recall campaign, Mazda is extending the warranty coverage on the front coil spring for the life of the vehicle.
