Dual Sub Hookup Question

Post by Bling Bling »

Just purchased 2 - 10" Infinity Reference subs and box off a local guy for $140 Cdn. I guess they can handle around 500 Watts each. My question is should I run a two channel amp...one channel to each sub or runa mono amp and parallel the subs together? What is the advantage of either hookup? Which is more efficient?

It all depends are the subs DVCs? Whats the resistance of the voice
coil(s)? Is the amp 2 Ohm stable? Can it be bridged?

i agree, if your subs/amp can be bridged and run in parallel, they will sound MUCH better IMO.

If the amp can be bridged mono and is 2 ohm stable, running parallel mono will sound hella better because it is pushing the max power that the amp can put out to both speakers. I currently have 2 12" sony xplods hooked up to a 820 SPL amp. it is unfortunately not 2 ohm stable but still is louder than hell. I would recommend pointing the speakers towards the back of the car, this allows the sound to resonate alot better and give you deeper, richer sounding bass.

I haven't bought an amp for them yet. And I will pull a speaker this weekend to get the resistance for that sub. I figured the general concensus would be run in parallel but wanted to check with the audiophiles out there. :D

make sure the amp you buy is 2 ohm mono stable. you will prolly be looking at $200+ for a 2 ohm stable mono amp, unless you get a good deal off ebay.

i had the exact same speakers in my old car. i had then hooked up to a rockford fosgate 2chanel amp and ran them in paralell i tried both ways and deicded that paralell sounded better. also i had them over a year with no problems so you should be alright with reliablity.

P.S. good snag on those subs best ones ive ever had till i got my dual 12" eclipses
