Tunes67- Sorry I didn't post that

It's the 4cyl Auto. No engine mods or anything. What I listed before was what I did (which isn't much I know)

Moon- Yep, that Includes the headers

custom: I have looked around @ posts in the 4cyl section. Almost all of the posts I saw were problems, or tips and such.. I didn't really see anything (with the exception of the BP stuff)

Dali: Cash flow is not a problem.. If it's something I have to save up for, I will

if your curious as to how much I make a week, it's about 400 to 500.

Honestly.. if I was in your shoes.. I'd consider swapping from ATX to MTX. The ATX trannies are notoriously unreliable and gutless. I own a 94 ATX RS car and dude... my brothers 92 SOHC MTX MX-3 will easily eat my 94 DOHC ATX RS for breakfast. Which is why I am building my GS car :D

yeah I actually was thinking of doing that next.

I tried searching for ATX to MTX, but I didn't get anything other then problems people were having with their transmissions.

I did see 1 post on ATX to MTX, but it was someone looking for the parts..

so now, what parts are needed for the conversion, and what parts should I get that would be performance?

btw.. please don't hate me or get mad at me.. I know i'm a huge n00b, but it's my first car...

Performance parts that is related to your transmission would probably be some good gear oil (royal purple), a short throw shifter (B&M makes a good one, pacesetter has an adjustable one) and a good shift knob, maybe a nice leather boot.

After the ATX to MTX swap, I think you should probably to some seriouse power upgrades or suspension upgrade.

For power, you can get a BP or BPT engine. From japan, and it's almost a direct swap. They run at about 200hp with a turbo. If your stock engine is still in good shape, you can turbo that as well, but you should rebuild it and beef it up abit.

As for suspension there are about 4 choices for struts and springs, you'll have to do more reasearch depending on how much modification your willing to do, how stiff you want it, and how much money you have left after your motor swap haha.

Those are the main things performance wise. Engine, drivetrain, suspension, and you might want to get a new set of lightweight rims/tires.

Hope this helps you out abit!

There is a LOT of information out there.. And if this is the first time you have done a big project.. you should seriously spend a LOT of time doing research. It may sound dull and unexciting. But serious.. the last thing you want is to get into the middle of such a project and have a question you dont have an answer too.. or worse.. have a question NO ONE has a answer too. With that said.. its really not that big of deal. But there are a lot of little things that will need to be done. The most difficult of the projects will likely be swapping out the pedal assemblies under the dash.. not a fun place to work. Here is a link to a fairly well detailed work log of someone that swapped from ATX to MTX and also swapped in a BP engine at the same time.

Now.. that should get you started. Make no mistake.. 80% of this project will be research and time spent reading online. Be prepared.

Also.. you dont mention what year your MX-3 is.. that will also make a difference as well when it comes to some parts (like what engine to get if you ever decide to swap your current one out)

Realistically.. you are looking at about $800 for such a project. This is assuming you find a "decent" deal on your parts. Be prepared to buy some parts new. Parts I recommend buying new.. Slave Cylinder, Clutch Master Cylinder, and of course the Clutch itself as well as the flywheel.

That should get you started.. and if you lose interest.. likely you shouldnt attempt the project.. you dont want to quit in the middle of the project.

Thanks a lot!! I'll start getting up those performance parts as soon as I'm finished w/ the exhaust... also will start looking around for the other MTX parts i'll need

I knew about the BP however, and figured i'd get the BP and turbo it (seems like everyone likes that more than just getting the BPT)

I'll let you all know how it comes along

Light weight wheels and better rubber would be next up for me in your position...

@ tunes:

I didn't even notice your post until now, but I must say thanks!! I'm going to read through the post you linked. I know reading is boring, but that's no problem with me. My only problem is searching through the tons of stuff on here, trying to find what i'm looking for lol.

and 800 to me seems almost generous. I was expecting the project be in the 1,000 to 1,500 dollar range.

Oh, and I won't lose interest.. I've lost interest in a lot of things, but I love my car waaaay to much to lose interest in her :D

@ Purple:

Right now I have some nice racing tires on and they are going to last me for a little while longer. When they start to get old, i'll swap out for light weight wheels.. i'm just not worried about them right now..
