seat belt recall T_T

Post by Dark_Rider2k3 »

I never thought much about it until yesterday, when my seatbelt would not move all the way.. best way to describe it is that it is "jammed"..

then I remembered the recall on the seat belts that I saw on here, and Immediately printed out the paper that was on the site about it.

Took it to the Mazda dealership nearby, showed them, and got nowhere..

apparently Mazda's site is down, and they said they can't check my VIN to see if i'm still able to get it fixed.... problem is this thing about 12 years... that it's only good for 12 years..

is that true? I'm really not liking having my seatbelt stuck like that... I hate driving without my seatbelt on, and really need it fixed...

anyone have any suggestions/tips or what not to help me?

Thanks!!

No they are required by law to fix it since it was a recall. That is a serious safety issue and they are required to fix it! Don't take NO for an answer! And make sure you don't pay a dime!

If the dealership gives you any additional grief.. contact Mazda directly.. they will usually get things straightened out fairly quick.

when mine first bound up I was like what the crap... and then I did research like you did and found the recall info. I took it to mazda and showed them and they tried to skirt around the issue... so I just said "I guess I can drive out of here and have a wreck then I can come back and sue mazda for everything they are worth... should I call my lawyer now?"

that pretty much got the ball rolling... but I stood there the entire time they worked on it because I didn't want them messing with the klze. I hate taking it up there because they never believe I have a 2.5 from an mx-6, a 626 tranny... they just don't believe that stuff is interchangeable...

I saw the bill (which I didn't have to pay) but to replace one side for all the parts and labor was about $1200!!!!!

well good news is it didn't take much longer to get what I wanted.

I went back there and this other guy was there.. explained what happened earlier, showed him everything i had highlighted (the lifetime warranty and all that crap) and got my results..

he said he is going to have the parts ordered, and then he'll call me when they are in...

$1200 for the seatbelt fix?
Holy crap, you mean to tell me Mazda spent a crap load of money just to put automatic seatbelts on these MX3s when they could of done something like make a MX3 GT version with a KLDE or atleast a KFZE engine?

maybe the parts didn't cost as much 15 years ago  It seems like all cars from that era had auto seatbelts... or maybe it was just the imports... I was too young to even care at that time in my life

*sighs...*

got tired of dealing with Mazda dealership (they told me it had already been replaced and was not under the free repair) so I called mazda myself..

unfortunately, he said to me (as he read the recall letter) that since my seat belts had already been replaced, they were not under warranty.. only the original belts were...

so now i'm stuck with seat belts that do not work...

any suggestions?? >_>

I'd assume you buy the belts.
B'pillars
and the clips off of the non-austo seats.

Maybe you can buy the non-auto canadian 92-93 belts and the Us spec 94+ b pillars. You may can still use your belt clips with these belts, but I'm not sure.

well found out I cannot do it..

not that it's "physically impossible" but I a friend of mine (mechanic) told me he could not pass my car if I did that..

state law does not allow me to alter the seat belt in any way, though he said he would help me fix it, so it's not the end of the world..

Im sure you can swap to manual seat belts no problem, they won't prosecute you for that lol. If they inspect it most of the time they won't even know you swapped them if you did clean job.
