How to remove the trunk panels to install the hatch garnish?

Post by Mazdaspeed96743 »

Hi guys I took off the 3rd brake light cover, 3 plastic clips, popped two other clips when I un-screwed the cargo holder thing and this plastic panel is still not comming off. Everytime I yank it it gets stuck. Can someone help me figure out how to remove this piece? I need to remove the piece to install my new hatch garnish I bought thats why. It is the plastic panel inside of the trunk right under where the hatch garnish sits... :?

I beleve you have to remove the upper piece cloest to the interior 1st, then you can slide out the back piece.

you have to take the two mount holders of the sides, the one for lifting the cargo cover up with the hatch, then pop these side panels off. you only will have to pop half of these panels off. now remove the wiper motor cover and third brake light cover. pop this panel down and towards the fron of the car. with just the bare metal you have i beleive six screws holding the carnish on with a push plug in the middle of it, you will also have to remove the light bulbs from the 3rd light to get at some of these mounts. sorry if this makes no sense, no sleep this week. started another motor swap for a friend.

I did it thanks guys! :). I had to remove the two side panels, un-screw the cargo cover thing, then take out the 3rd light panel, remove all of those push in clips (lost some of them and broke some of them) and yanked the whole thing out. It was a fun project.
