Front Lips.. MAking some new ones-Need ideas.

Post by Custommx3 »

Ive decided that Front lips are getting too expensive and your paying too much for OEM replacements that are a 2 piece that break VERY easily.
Were going to take a mold of the OEM style lip and make it a 1 piece fiberglass lip. Getting rid of that front piece that connects the two.
Another will be the Miata front lip style.
Image
I have a few more ideas I'll have to Photoshop.
Also were gonna make some rear lips as well.
Heres your chance to get some lips made with your ideas. of course not every idea will be made, but some will if many are interested.
They are guarenteed to be a direct fit, since I have my RS bumper, each one will be test fitted to that.
Once sold, a porting of sales will goto MX-3.com (JEff)to take care of the bills. They may even be sold through the online store. Be aware the Projection headlights are still being made, but this will give us time to work on something else why thats being made.
Prices are Unknown, but I want to keep then ~$200USD range, maybe a lil more or less, depending on time involved of course. Shipping will be extra.
Lets see some photoshop or ideas....

i hate to be a party-pooper, but wouldn't a fiberglass lip be LESS durable than the OEM urethane lip?

The stock OEM is a 2 piece, one slight bump and its broken in half.
What do you guys thing of a lip that clips on the the lower part of the hole instead of just bolting to the bottom. I will try and Photoshop something today o give u an idea. It should hold on better too this way.

I like the top mix on myself. Whatever design I thing it should come out a bit in front. Not be hidden under the bumper too much. Personally I would think not too low either. The stocker hits enough as it is
As for the rear I would really love to see something to give a little style in the back. Some vent maybe. If possible a vent on each side like some hyundai tiburons have. See pic(link)
Image

I don't have any ideas on what it should look like, but I sure need one. The cheapest one i've found is topmix, but shipping is just as much as the darn lip.

QB]

I disagree. The urethane lip is very durable, and I thought that was the main reason it was so much more expensive than fiberglass. I've bumped into curbs many times, and it just flexes instead of breaking. A fiberglass lip would have snapped into several pieces by now. Of course, any significant impact will cause any bumper/lip to break.

same here mine was broken when i bought the car and when ever i see a gs i look at the spoiler and sure as **** its broken too, they arent that great, while they might be strong as one piece alone, the two pieces create a weak spot for a break.
