a free mx ?!?!?!? Need a couple of openions

Post by MrsOzx »

Ok, I am kinda gettin up there in my miles so I have been looking for another mx. I found a 95?? GS at a salvage yard and they want like 500 for it. The only dammage is the front left side and the hood. That I can tell. The car only has 48,000 miles on it. I would take the body parts I need off the one I have now so not alot of expense there. And I had a friend (mechanic) go look at it and it starts fine. It needs brakes and possibly a couple ltttle things under the hood that might possibly have been dammaged when it was wreked. Other than that it is in very good cond. Then I would finnish piecing out the one I already have and make my money back and some... A FREE car!?!?!? :)

i'd say go for it. total cost would be what, less then $2,000? that's for parts costing 3 times the cost of the whole thing. my car had 54k miles on it (pretty much perfect condition) and i payed $5,500 for it last september. so an equivalent car with less miles would be a steal. just get second opinions on everything.
Dude.

Dont get too excited, I got my GS for 700 bucks and there was alot wrong with it than he told me. The motor has issues, needs a clutch, needed a headlight, fender, and a door. I drove it the other day prettyhard for like 10 seconds to see what she could dooo, and when I got it back I noticed steam from under the hood. I really dont mind though, Im doing a motor swap and getting a new clutch anyways. Ive already got everything else I need for the body.
BTW.. the frame on it could be bent.

See that is what happened with the one I have now I paid 1200 for it and about two weeks later I had about 2000 worth of repairs and I am still working on some of them. I really would not be so interested if the miles were not so low, but it hardly has any on it. I will get the frame checked out though. Do you think it would be a smart investment to buy it and piece it out if the frame is bent???
[ January 04, 2002: Message edited by: MrsOzx ]

MrsOzx, i know this is a little late but i reacently did a very simmilar job. i bought a 95 Mx with 60k on it for $400. it was hit hard in the front right and the frame was bent back to the strut tower. what i did was a got a nother front clip from a salvage yard and replaced the damaged portion from the firewall foward. now i had a friend do all the body work and the welding. and now im driving the car with a little over $3000 in it and the car looks and runs grate. i plan on selling it though (make some money for my 92 Gs) i think its a good idea as long as u know that u may have unexpected expenses. eavon though i have 3000 wraped up in it it turned out to be a very nice car.

I bought it. I had it checked out and the frame is not bent!! It only needs some body pieces and a fiew little pieces here and there. No big deal. It does need a pass. side door, but I found one for 200.00 I am picking up this weekend. It is going to be nice. I am excited.
