Front brake upgrade dilemma
Hi Guys,
I'm a bit in a dilemma.
I've got a set of 323f v6 spindles
Than I purchased the calipers/brackets from a 1st gen mx6 (european 626)
Also got a set of Millenia calipers/brackets
The millenia brackets are grinded to fit the 323 v6 spindles (wasn't that bad to do).
Now for the dilemma:
Option 1: Keep the Millenia brakes, drill out my 323 v6 spindle to accept the bolt. (+: no more spending money on brakes -: drill out the hole)
Option 2: Throw away the millenia brakes, buy another set of Subaru brakes, and use the subaru/mx6 combo. (+: no drilled/grinded stuff -: buy more stuff, through away millenia's)

Personally, I am of the mindset that building it with your own 2 hands feels better; If it saves money, doubly so.

For myself I always prefer when I can just bolt parts together and they fit like they're supposed to. The Subaru calipers with the 626 brackets and the Subaru slider pins bolt perfectly to the 323F spindles and only require a single washer to center the caliper on the stock rotor.

Okay, lets see how good a deal I can get on those Subaru brakes.
If i can get them for a decent deal you can have the millenia's MzMazda but they are heavy (don't know if shipping is worth it)
How about brake pads ?
There is the availability of OEM (or better) brake pads for a first gen mx6 or a millenia.

I've read on CP that you can also use a mx5 rotor 270mm, instead of our stock 257mm.wytbishop wrote: a single washer to center the caliper on the stock rotor.

This is from ClubProtoge
So this is the front, and possible with Mx4 270mm rotors ?first the parts for option 1 ( No cutting of stuff)
BA V6 hubs complete
BG 4 cly 4 stud wheel bearings and 4 stud centers x 2
Rotors; Your choice of either Slotted/drilled BG GTX/ Astina GT rotors or NB8 MX5/Miata rotors (270mm), * Pads overlap 1mm when using stock 257mm rotors
Calipers; BJ series wagon Subaru Legacy GT turbo (2pot)
Brake brackets; Mazda GD 626/TX5/Probe
Washers of 2-3mm , Cyl head bolt washers work well (i'll explain later)
Brake pads; as above, but use some Bendix DB1114 or something better than OEM
Brake lines; your choice of either OEM/Braided etc for BG models * Careful, there are two types ive found, a large and a small Neck Banjo head, i tested using the a split small neck type, all ok, but my car was fitted with a large neck banjo bolt. Large neck requires filling down part of the caliper, 5 mins extra
First Push out the V6 5 stud Center, push in the 4 stud center
Paint/bling up the calipers from the Subi/Mazda combo

OK I see what you're referring to. I never tried fitting a miata rotor with my BA spindles. With the combination of parts and stock MX-3 rotors the rotor does not reach out all the way to the outer edge of the pad. It is about 1mm short. With 270mm rotors the rotor will stick out past the top of the pad by about 5-6mm I think, but they might fit. There isn't going to be any braking advantage if the pad is not at the outer edge of the rotor.
