92 Mx3 4cyl sohc starts but won't stay running

Post by oilsandsoilfan »

Hello all, looking for a little help on solving problem with 92 Mx3 4 cyl sohc.
I bought this car for my son and initially it was not running at all, I have replaced disty as it had no spark and fuel pump as it was not working either. Car will start but dies about a minute after starting, I have read through previous posta and have tried pretty well everything I could find that was suggested for this condition. The car will run just fine if I run a jumper from fp to ground in the diagnostic connector but as soon as I pull the jumper the car will die. Vaf checks out, no vauum leaks all grounds have been cleaned, tried 3 differant ecm's as it came with spares and condition stays the same. Tried two differant disty's no change, new coil no change, timing is o.k.

Any Ideas. :D

Thanks in advance. :D

sounds like a distributor problem again. Not uncommon to have a few defective units in a row :P

does it stay running as long as it wants with FP and GND jumped? I'm pretty sure its a sensor in the distributor that opens the FP relay the same way that the jumper would. It is on the v6's at least.

Yeah it runs great while fp and ground are jumped, have tried 2 differant disty's with the same results. But it would not surprise me if both are faulty as I have read it is not uncommon to have to go through multiple disty's before getting one that works properly. I also read that one of the coolant sensors can cause this same issue but have so far not been able to find test specs and locations of all three.
