What ECU's do you guys run with a curved neck ZE?

Post by KLDE Wagon »

Just wondering what ecu/vaf setup you guys use when running a ZE. I know some of you use the stock GS manifold, but it seems like the ZE would like different VRIS points then the K8. Either way, I'm looking to switch from a DE intake to a curved neck and was wondering what you guys do to fix the VRIS points. Thanks.

KL36 w/ Je50 VAF
Probinator w/ JE50 VAF

Those are the 2 combo's I've used. No problem with e-test with the KL36

Actually there is 4 option's:

1.) Probinator Chipped K8 ECU: Chip Costs $45(i think) if you can soldier then this is your best bang for your buck.
2.) KL31 ECU: buy one from Ebay there around $150-250, basically plug and play.
3.) KL36 ECU: Same as KL31
4.) MegaSquirt or any Standalone system: Basically the best option if you know alot about wiring and soldiering, search the boards on how to do this. This is the best option for the most power out of your KLZE. Costs around $150+300(I think)

I am basically worried about the VRIS points so the MS option won't really solve this. When using a KL31 or KL36 ECU, you have to use the JE50 Vaf also... correct? Perhaps just the probinator chip is my best option anyways (that is what i was gonna use) just not sure that the straight neck ZE has the same VRIS points as the curved neck...

If you used a straight neck the kl36 and kl31 ecu will provide the correct VR points as that is what the ecu was designed for.

actually you can control the vris with megasquirt, as long as it has a 2 stage setup your basically using the n2o option to run your vris, you set it to activate at the specific rpm and then deactivate at a specific rpm. Or if you don't want to use standalone and would rather go with ecu, you can use MSD window switches to do the same thing, you'll just need 2 of them (one controls one vris). I did this on mine and it was pretty cool cause i could adjust when i wanted the vris to open up and close. If you do go this route I recommend the getting the MSD digital Window Switches, they allow you to adjust digitally instead of using a pill, and the resale value is much higher than if you were to get the basic pill based ones.

and the initial cost is a lot more too ahaha... i didn't think about using MS with the n2o option, and that would be tunable just like the window switches

Best bang for the buck is the Probinator.

He can make that s--- really nice. I have a straight neck kl31 cammed ze with curve neck manifold swapped onto it. The probinaor I got is just the same as kl31 but vris points are set for curve neck. Give that a try.

Well I have a MS already and was planning on running it eventually... so I think I'm going with that option. What are the actual stock settings for the curved neck?

That's exactly what I have to. straight neck kl31 cammed high compression ze but with a millenia intake.
Are the vris points on a probinator chip that much better then on the kl31 or kl36 ecu?
