Unknown Button

Post by Matfragme »

Hi guys,

I have recently purchased a week ago a 1993 MX-3 1.8 v6, first of wow what a wonderful car I just love driving it :)

The only niggling thing I have is that it came with none of the original manuals and there is a button and I just can’t for the life of me figure out what it does. It’s just below the electric windows buttons on the driver’s side door; it says “Power” and has an on/off toggle. No matter what position it’s in all electrical components seem to operate as normal. I apologise as this is obviously a very simple question for you guys, but neither myself nor anyone that I’ve asked seems to have a clue as to its function.

Thanks in advance

Locks the passenger side window. If they still roll downon the pass side, the button is broken.

If farily common in Mazda's, the mx-3 and the 626 both have it. You can basically lock out all passengers to control their own windows, but the driver with the main controls still can. I actually disabled the lock-out switch it since it's not an issue unless you have a 3yr old trying to play with the windows, and because if it's location, it would always hit it to lock with my arm, and my passenger would constatnly bug me to un-lock the passenger side window switch, especially my sister, and especially in the summer, since i don't have A/C

Funny story. My sister has a similar button in per '93 Prelude. She brought her car in to get a new muffler and when she got it back, her passenger side window wouldn't work, neither from either side switch. We though something got fried. So I took appart the pannel, tested the switch, tested the motor, checked the fuses, everything tested OK. Than I notice the switch, and it was flipped to Off, so I flipped it to ON, and guess that, the passenger side window worked. I guess on Honda Preludes, that switch even locks out the driver from controlling it, which is kinda pointless, but funny tho.

Thanks guys :)

I’m guessing it’s either broken or disabled on mine as it has no effect on the passenger controls for their window. But I feel a lot happier now I know what it was meant for. It did squish my James Bond style ejector seat theory thou
