How do i get the vents out of my dash?

Hey everyone i bought an mx3 and the previous owner tried making the interior look better by painting the vents but now they are allchipped and look like crap so i owuld like to repaint them but i am hoping i dont need to take the hole dash off of it just do it but any help appreciated.

What about a 1997 one ?
Do they pop out too ?
I want to remove them to add some extra gauges ...
