Volfenhag Audio, has anyone heard of these guys? ebays selling their 1000watt 10 for like 80 bucks....
500 watt rms... thats not bad, i was thinkin bout glassin 2 of these puppies in. they have 6 1/2s that push 450watts!!!! neone know nething bout these guys
judging a speaker by its wattage rating is not a good thing to do. Find out what the basket is made from, what the cone is made from, what the spider is made from, resistance, stuff like that. If you get a chance, have someone power the sub for you, and see how much control it has.. the better the cone control, the cleaner the sound.
i spent a good 2 hours today looking for reviews online today, i read a very detalied one, and guy said the price u pay for the sub, and the power for said price, is very surprising. he said its deffintly a good buy. he said a downside is that the basket looks as if its cast metal, but its not, aluminum.. but, the guy made a very detailed review. other then that, i know of NOONE in my area selling these, or that have even heard of this company.
*note i will not be doing the rx7 hatch conversion, id rather get a BP*
german version of audiobahn. They are loud power hungry subs. I would much rather have a 150 watt 'efficiant' subwoofer then a 500 watt power sucker just to make the same amount of noise. Sensitivity is the big one, honestly: watts, magnet size, thickness of foam surrounds are all for looks, they mean nothing. If a speaker says 500 RMS then it NEEDS at least 3-400 rms. Ususally efficiancy (SP?) is much lower (below 90 db) ...remember, if sub 'A' has efficiancy of 88 DB and sub 'B' has efficency of 91 DB, then sub 'A' will need twice the amount of power to reach the same volume output level of sub 'B'...crazy stuff but its true. Even funnier is that if sub 'B' is 3 db more sensitive at 94DB effeciancy , then 3 TIMES the amount of power is needed for sub 'A' to play as loud as sub B. Thats why most people who know alot about audio stay away from the big heavy beefy lookin subs because all-in-all there is not really an advantage unless you are willing to drive KILOWATTS into them. Generally, its the build of the sub that counts. Like mentioned, how linear is the cone at high volumes? How well is the cone/surround glued together? and will it just fall apart? I have actually heard bad things about volvengag but never actually tried them out for myself...so i couldnt tell you how good they are.
