interrupting advertisements

Post by Gro Harlem »

No offense to the owner of this site, but why bastardize the site's forums by having entire pages of ads interrupt you???????
I don't know how much money you really make off ads, but I have tried them for my sites and they just don't yeild enough money to justify using them.

Why not hold a fundraiser thing? I realize you have vendors who contribute money from their GB's, but why not hold a donation fundraiser to let it be known to newer members that donations are welcome? Most people probably don't notice the "make a donation" image on the top of the page.

Noone donates, Period. There are a few of us that do, but others just come here all the time and not realizing the cost to run this website. Unfortunatley, Jeff has to pay the rest from his pocet. Being a newlywed and a new homeowner money is not as abundant. He does what he can to keep the site alive.

here's an idea to get people to donate: have a premium area for people who have donated a specific amount of money to the board. Hmmm...but on the other hand, what in the world would be there  . Just my 2 centavos.

You can also do what mx6.com does and put donator under the persons Screen name.

I am the admin of protegeclub.com . I don't know who hosts your site, but we have 5k+ members and plenty of hits a day. Vendors alone contribute to the cost of running the site. If they hold groupbuys and other stuff like that they pay a % of what they make. It almost completely covers the cost of the site.
You could always implement a special user group for people who donate, which allows them to search quicker and not have to put up with the pop ups and full-page click-thru ads. I'd pay for it!

that sounds like a good idea.. a certain % of a groupbuy going towards this site. like if there was a group buy for 10 cf hoods at 250each for example, that's 2500 total and then add another $10 per hood, (c'mon its only 10 bucks you're buying a 250 hood.) so that's 260 per hood.. and the site gets $100 total out of this. (this is just an example.. the actual prices vary).
(if i got approval for the topmix lip spoilers i'd happily set this up for you =D)

I'm curious as well to how much this site costs - if you "opened up your books", so to speak, it would really motivate people to help you out. Me? I'm waiting for the decals :D
P.S. The "Donated" thing under your username is a great idea.

how about only donating users are allowed in group buys and mx-3.com-only special offers? Even better, only paid registered users cna access the sale/trade forum, that should eliminate scammers.
What we do at my other site i visit is actually post how much money is banked as it comes up, at the paydate comes closer, a thread is started to show how much is needed left to may to break even, calculated on all actors needed (adds, hits, traffic usages, etc...). It encourages people to pay, cause if we dont make enough to become a gold community, we get pop ups gallore and cant ban people, and we NEED to be able to ban people
