Are gauge clusters year-specific?

This forum is for discussion of topics relating to MX-3 lighting such as Headlights, Tail lights, Accessory Lights, Interior Lights, Etc. For example, Rear Euro Altezza Style Tail lights, Headlight units, LED's, HID's, Bulbs, Interior lights, Neons, Strobes, Auxillary Lights/Fogs or anything filament and gas discharge related.
Also anything dealing with the elctrical system.

Are gauge clusters year-specific?

Post by Chiggles »

My 95 GS may need a new speedometer and temperature gauge. Will ANY GS cluster fit into my car regardless of year or do I HAVE to find another 95?

For that matter does it even have to be GS... could I get away with a cluster from an RS?

I need the odometer to display in kilometers, not miles. How do I tell which way it will be on the replacement cluster?

Anyone got an idea what it's worth?

Thanks!!

I put a JDM one in my us spec car and it works great the only difference is I cant check codes with it. I believe you can use one from any mx-3

I believe there are some difference that may pose a problem and some that may not. Specifically RS vs GS (speedo related), possibly Atx VS Mtx.

it should be alright if its for an atx or mtx car, not sure about the RS vs GS though, i could see that being different.

the RS and GS are different as far as the calibration of the gauges.
Also the SOHC RS's have a cable driven speedo, the later models are electronic like all GS models.
