Really, that is not what I've found. What are the issues with them? Also, what you would you take over a JL at the 500 dollar level, for about 500 class D watts. I've had mine for about 2 years now and they rock. Good adjustment of sound if needed (mine is handeled by the cross over though) good ratings that I saw when I bought them (pro comparisons), they stay pretty cool on the back of the back seat, nice design. My biggest gripe is the location of the power input and the RCA input. I have to wind the RCAs all the way around the amp to get to the hook-up without crossing the power wire. They also don't have a wire cover so building a wire hidden amp rack was out of the question.

ZE -strait neck,headers,2.5 exhaust,pheno spacers,lower cross member,GC coils,MS struts,Brembo slotted rotors,filled MS mounts,SS brake/clutch lines, CAI,to rear bat reloc,Hella headlamps,Hella DE fogs 180WHP

Take the cover off one and compare it to another amp like say a Crossfire or something of that ilk. The JL is just not as good. Not as good of parts at all. Perhaps not as bad as an Audiobahn or BOSS or something like that, but I'd probably put them on the same line as Rockford Fosgate's lower level amps.
Then, take into account JL doesn't allow online sales. So you could even compare a $500 JL to a $850 amp of another brand, because most other brands allow online sales ... which means an $850 retail amp can be had for $500.
JL is INSANE with monitoring online sales. If they find someone selling new JL product on an eBay auction or online store, they'll buy the part from the person .... then they'll pull the serial number off the product and trace the seller so they can revoke thier JL selling rights.
