Dead MX3??

Post by FuelInject225 »

Ok so I have a small problem. I have a 1993 1.6l sohc mx3. It overheated and killed and now it won't crank again. Has plenty of gas and its getting spark but all it does is turn over. Any ideas? Anything at all is greatly appreciated. Also it has 237k miles on the motor. Just got an oil change right before this happened.

I havnt changed it since I bought it. Which I bought it with 200k. But I don't see how the water pump would keep it from cranking. My girlfriends eclipse has a bad water pump and it still cranks right up. It'll overheat in a minute but it still runs.

Were spark plugs wet with gas when you took them out? How does oil, coolant look like?

I'm not sure... My girlfriend let some Mississippi rednecks try to fix it before I could go get it and tow it home. I know when I pulled the plugs out one had the tip broke off. And they all had like a brownish red tint on the white right above the threads. But she also said they tried spraying starter fluid in it so i can only assume they sprayed it into the plugs. As for the oil I havnt checked it since it was literally just changed. Maybe 150 miles on it total. But I turned the key to listen for the humming of the fuel pump and there is none. Even took the cover off and put my ear right on it. So i can only assume the pump kicked the.bucket or a relay did.

The maf could keep it from cranking? I know it'll run hella bad when they go bad but ill have to look into that.

Ok so. Does anyone know if any other year/model cars share the same relays as a 93 mx3? I went to autozone to replace mine and they don't have and they cant even get them. Id like to replace the fuel pump relay before I go spend $150 on a new fuel pump.

do a fuel pressure test before you go buy a pump. if your hold pressure and line pressure is correct, then your pump is working
