Cracked turbo ffs

Post by youdirtyfox »

Well I should of checked it out properly when I bought it a few years ago, but after dismantling it properly outside in the daylight the turbo has cracked right through the exhaust housing and right upto the penny valve! Its goosed me thinks :crying:

So the question is how common are these VJ-11's in USA and Canada as there are pretty rare here!
Can anyone source me an exhaust housing if it's replaceable on its own?

Pissed is not the word, bought in good faith of ebay USA

Vj-11s came in the 89-92(I think) Ford Probe GTs. They're about as common as MX3s over in Western Canada.

It wouldn't be horribly difficult to track one down Sam but with shipping to the other side of the pond, it's just cheaper to go the other route you mentioned in your work log. Turbos and manis' are heavy, gonna be pricey on the shipping.

it'd be more beneficial to go with a T28 anyways

Great thanks for your help folks. I have almost come to the decision that the 323 mani. I have is to valuable to waste at this point but it would be real great to use a T28 so I think I have a plan to turn a steel billet flange adaptor were a T28 mild steel flange can easily be welded on to it.

Does anyone see a problem with mounting the turbo say 1 1/2" lower?

make sure there is a fair ammount of gravity feed to the oil return and the hole is still able to be high on the pan.

Yeah good call will do, funnily enough was looking up how to clock a turbo last night to get the drain feed right at the bottom, sump already has the union in it pretty high up, maybe not as high as I would like but I think its above the oil level.

They are rare these days. they always had a tendency to crack in that same spot. I had mine welded, you can weld cast if you can find someone who knows how to do it. It requires getting the cast red hot with a torch before you start to weld. OR you can buy a cheep ebay turbo mani for the Miata and use that. That is how I have made my last two turbo manifolds.
