a/c installation wiring problem

Post by MX_Sid »

Greetings All,

after reading Super K's write up, I decided to install an A/C in my mx. on the wiring I pulled from the J/Y, one of the wires seems rigged, and is unacceptable. I love my car too much 2 let lazy wiring make it look like crap. There is a Red wire coming out of the front relay, on the front-most drivers-side.

In the J/Y, it was spliced onto the fan relay/fuse wiring, under the box by the battery using a butt connector. I figured it was by-passing a faulty fan switch in their car. After installation, while charging the system, I noticed that the air wasn't getting any colder and the triangle of bolts on the compressor were not moving even though the button was lit up and the secondary fan running.

So my question is, does anyone know where the wire, in the front-most, driver-side port, of the A/C relay assymbly, is SUPPOSED to go? or does it even serve a purpose? or am I just being cheap, since I dropped 3 cans, 12oz, of freon already and the air is still hotter than the ambient temp.?

I have already looked at the online manuals and did a web search but havn't found anything. my haynes (protege) has the schematic but the wires are all different colored so it doesnt really help.

On the bright side, whoever had the bp before me prolly had A/C because my threads were tip top!
But seriously, ANY help would be appreciated as usual. Thanks!
I HATE mechanic shops and LOVE junkyards!!
