manual gearbox rebuild kit?

Post by mikeinaus »

anyone know where to buy a rebuild kit that includes sycros and everything id need? also what brands would people recommend on this? id rather pay a bit more up front and do it right the first time kind of thing. ive seen some kits on ebay but they are just for the bearings and seals. its for the v6 series transmission.

I've looked into this recently as well, however as you encountered, I too could only find bearings and seals. That's all rockauto has to offer anyway. If you find some please post the source as I'd be interested in that as well.

Hmmm, how long will a freshly rebuilt G series shift smooth as butter? Any aftermarket syncro options? I wonder how much it'd cost for custom syncros...

really depends on the driver i'd say. i wouldnt bother with anything but OEM. although i'd kill for a full par gearset.

Hmm, honestly upgraded syncros would be nice... Even with good gear oil, these transmissions seem to get a little notchy after a while :( That's my experience mind you, with 3 G series trans so far. :/

its funny when i had my protege5's i found the trans in both really notchy, i find it better suited to the v6 in my mx tho. only thing that hasnt changed is my nervousness about opening the box up myself and doing a teardown.

I may take the time to rebuild one eventually, but honestly, I probably won't until something breaks for real. It falls under the "It would be nice but..." category for me.
