Tamper proof screws for steering wheels
Just got my NRG steering wheel installed today with a Sparco hub (thanks to Ukrman for that!) I originally didn't want to get a quick release hub. I had the ingenious idea of using torx security screws instead of the standard allen screws to deter any possible theft of the steering wheel. But the problem is that the allen screws are metric (M5 x 0.
and the torx are standard. I wanted to see if anyone could help me out on this or know any other work arounds short of getting a quick release hub, where I can use a certain screw type to lock down the wheel that's obsure or hard to get.

Re: Tamper proof screws for steering wheels
You could fill the holes with epoxy then if you ever needed to remove the wheel simply dig out the epoxy or some other similar product. Simple and cheap.

Re: Tamper proof screws for steering wheels
invest in a tap and die and simply change the theads to the ones you need. I can not see anyone steeling your wheel though. It's probably 8 screws or so, to steal something only worth $100 is not worth it.

Re: Tamper proof screws for steering wheels
@Ryan - a little excessive, I would wanna be able to remove it if I had to.
@Nd4SpdSe - These were the screws I initially wanted to use, but they aren't metric and won't fit the hub threads
@Daninski - What kinda epoxy are we talking about here?
@RS_OBD'oh_2 - That might be a possibility, But I do have to get it right the first time or I ruin a perfectly good hub.......oh and I'm from the Jersey City area, where people will break your window just for the loose change in the tray. That's why people invest in the quick hub release (not only for the cars themselves but for the steering wheels). But I guess I shouldn't be as worried, as the hierarchy of stealing/breaking into imports goes: 1 Honda/Acura, 2 Toyota, 3 Nissan, and I guess Mazda's and Mitsubishi's are somewhere at the bottom.

Re: Tamper proof screws for steering wheels
I was joking
I googled "keyed metric fasteners" and this came up.

Re: Tamper proof screws for steering wheels
CRAP! the website you pointed me to only sells in bulk to those with accounts (ie business, industrial)
I guess I'll have to save up for a quick release hub as an alternative.
I know the money quick releases are made by NRG, no need to second guess, it's quality. (but $100 is pretty pricey for me right now)
But what about the other "JDM" ebay quick releases?? are they any good?

Re: Tamper proof screws for steering wheels
Think about what your asking for, you want a "cheap" quick release. An item that sees multiple twists and turns and stresses in day to day driving yet if seperates accidentally can cause some catastrophic results. Thats one item I wouldnt cheap out and by a knock of item idealy if you plan on removing it from the vehicle multiple times and not just for show.
Otherwise check and see if you have a fastenall near you I know theres a bunch in NY that offer almost any type of fastner nut and bolt you could dream up! GL!
