It's been discussed(and even came to fruition long ago), and I've seen a lot of interest on Probetalk mostly. I'm wondering if anybody HERE would be interested, and willing, to get in on a potential bulk buy somewhere down the road.

I'm not at all ready to pitch the idea to the Admins, as I'm mostly curious if anybody would actually consider this.

If the idea comes to fruition in the next 2 years, I will buy 2 Cranks myself. The more people we get involved, the cheaper this would become.

If you are interested in the idea of "stroking" an engine, yet haven't the slightest clue what that means, then I recommend the following read:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroker_Kit

Yeah, it's Wikipedia... so it's not exactly comprehensive. It should still give you the basic concept.

Here's another link, which shows one of many potential companies to build the crank through... and possibly other things as well. Personally, I think high CR. pistons, light rods, and a stroker crank are some worthy things to invest in... Even if it means saving for them.

http://www.flatlander-ipp.nl/custom-cranks.shtml

We all know that buying in bulk saves money, so combining the orders would certainly make it more feasible for most of us.

This would definitely be a big ticket purchase, for anybody involved. I personally would need at least 6 months to save up for this, if not longer.

If you have anything to add, or would like to express interest, please do so.

Personally I wouldn't mess with stroking our engine.

Nitrated crank for the first and most important reason.
The std crank can stand 800hp, why mess with it ?

Please put a lot of research into stroking a kl. You don't want to run into overheating issues.

For my own builds, cooling is literally at the top of my list. There are few things more important, especially with what I'm attempting.

I have always been of the belief that over-building something has its benefits, yet I also believe in experimentation and progress through trial and error. I've found such vague and sporadic information on KL strokers, that the idea seems almost foreign. Honestly, I mainly posted this to see if the interest was there. Apparently, it's not; so on to other things.

WHy would stroking cause overheating issues? Boring out does, but never heard of stroking a motor causing that...

Yes, you are correct Nd4SpdSe

I was a little bit further in my mind to people who have used this kind of kits.

Usually they needed .50 or .60 overbore...which leads to overheating issues.

But again; do good research for this stuff :)

I know a guy who has a stroked KL, a 2.7L. He's building it with the biggest turbo I've seen in a car, aiming for 600 WHP. He's using small block rods and either Honda or Ford pistons, 10:1.

I know know him, not internet know him, he lives an hour from me.

I talked with the people at Paeco a few years ago about their stage 2 engine and they they're real nice, but when I started asking him questions about what I would have to do with engine management and fuel mapping I got the impression that he thought I was speaking another language. I asked him if the numbers they publish are proven and he said they'd never actually built a KL engine, it's all theoretical. That's about when I opted out.

I also found when researching that build that they have a very poor reputation on the net for extremely long delivery times even for things like pistons and head work and stuff.

That sounds like online sales to me... So much generic, untested stuff out there.

Ryan,

Any chance you could snag some pictures of the short block for me?

You can put any size piston so long as you use racing sleeves, this could cost thousands though :D
