Major transmission fail

Post by cWs306 »

Hey everyone. i got some major problems. ill explain, Last night i was out cruising around with a buddy, car was driving great no problems what so ever, racied a few people and everything... then s**t hit the fan, i was taking off from a light no racing type launch or anything but then the car beside me punched it, and well im not gunna let him get away with that.. im still in first gear at about 2500 rpms so i hammered on it and all of a sudden it was a snapping bang sound and my revs went threw the roof then the car wouldnt go anywhere. it was still in gear and everything, and if i put it in gear it just revs. then i realized i also shattered the passenger side cv because it was sitting in the middle of the road.. boot ripped, snapped right off the half shaft.. soo what would be my problem here? -.- i got a few idea's just wanna see what you guys think before i start tearing it apart. thanks.

Not to be a wet blanket but the first problem is we don't discuss or condone street racing on this site, it's against site rules right. (site owner liability issues) Sounds like you may just need to replace your axle and you can buy them cheap at Rockauto.com.

Dude, we don't have LSDs from the factory. It's an open diff so the moment you sever the connection to one wheel the remains of that axle as just gonna free spin. No resistence. Same thing as getting one wheel stuck in snow. Your transmission didn't fail, you just need a new axle.

I'd suggest shifter bushings or engine mounts.

i know this is an unlikely cause but maybe your gas pedal squeaks. i took my mothers honda civic for a weekend trip and the gas pedal squeaked upon being pressed only at certain points when driving. i wd40'd the pedal and throttle cable and it was gone. the pedal also stuck on her car before i wd40'd it i nearly ran over my girlfriend in the tent because it got stuck to the floor on me haha.

Is it possibly a loose belt.

belts are all tight, and yah i had a sticky throttle cable too. used my parts car one. and hmmm ryan, thats what im thinking.. but i got the AWR tranny mounts..there beyond solid.. would it be the Upper mounts? it comes from the tranny side only. im confused! ima go check the upper mounts. see if there all tight.

Either of these. The bushings are a good example too, because they may squeak at some angles and not others(hence the 1-3 only)

My clutch pedal squeaks, I need to be less lazy and fix that... Pffffft.

I think i found the problem.. you know where the tranny cross member bolts to the frame by the fire wall.. WELL when i was doing my atx-mtx swap.. i sorta broke the 1 stud off.. so i had to remake it and im pretty damn sure that is what broke.. because this squeak is to violent to just be a lil ol' bushing. AND i also get it when i hit a good bump or hole.. now for my idea on fixing it... would welding that cross member straight to the car be safe? orr???? whats the right way to go about this.. thanks.
