So soon my engine swap will begin. I will try to take pictures. I am heading out to my parents place today, and will finish putting the engine together I have a few little things left, put on the intake manifold, add spark plugs, put on the time belt cover, and put the pulleys back on. It should not take me too long, and then I will bench test the motor using and old school spark box (the hardest tool to find btw), starter fluid, and jumping the starter. I will either post a smiley face or a timing questions post this evening.
While I am ranting I am going to explain the back story of my engine. When I was in eighth grade my best friend who lived up the street his dad was into Probes, and MX-3s over the years he had 5 Probes and 2 mx-3s. He had owned the 1993 SE for about a year (the one I bought from him) and just got a KL-ZE mx-3, the new one had a blown head gasket. It had a decent set up, stage 2 clutch almost brand new, ignition coil, hks filter, nitrous. He changed the head gasket and water pump and could not get it running after that. When I was 16 I told him I wanted one of his mx-3s. I was too impatient and my dad (who is a mechanic by trade, but does not work on imports too often) was not in the mood to help me redo and engine, which then I knew nothing, so he would have done it all. Eventually he junked the car, when I was a senior in high school 5 years later, and I took a lot of the parts I wanted. He kept the engine and transmission and it just sat on his garage floor, for a year longer. He agreed to sell it to me for $300, and I figured worst case, if the block is bad I can sell all the cams, manifold, tb, transmission, and make my money back, I was a bit scared since it did over heat. When we were trying to get it started the first time, before it was ripped apart the rings were seized, and the cam timing was off. Napa inspected the block, and heads which were good, and standard rings were put on with bearings. So I have until Sunday to get this in (it should not take that long, but it is nice to have screw up time and a bit to break in my engine before a 4 hour drive back.
