Manitoba Flooding

The flooding in Manitoba is a real tragedy. Thousands are affected including the farmers who should be getting ready to plant and the employees who work for them. I use to joke to anyone I knew being posted to Manitoba that if they didn't buy water front property just wait for it but, when it actually happens there's nothing funny about it.

Its pretty serious.

Some farmers won't be able to recover for years.

At 6:30 AM today they started a controlled breach of the Assinaboine, letting water run overland to avoid it happening uncontrolled in other more populated areas.

The insurance claims are going to be retarded. Farms will be decimated for years, especially the fragile crops like strawberries.

The worst thing about it all... Provincial tax pays for all of the damage, when its the floodways around the cities that cause all of the problems.... the cities should be paying out, not us. They're saving themselves at our expense, and we pay for it.

Yeah, it's not too much better along the Mississippi either....same story though, the Army Corp of Engineers are opening the gates to save the cities, at the expense of the small towns and everyone else....
