ECU has learning mode

Post by WhiteFinish »

Does our ecu have a learning mode ?

I mean, when the battery is disconnected for several weeks. Does the ecu need time to "learn" again ?

I have read on a few occasions in the past that if u do the ecu reset, the ecu "learns" for the first 30 min or so. I'm not sure if its true or not as I have never seen official literature on it, but it does make sense.

Maybe probetalk guys would know more? Or someone else can chime in with evidence to support what they say.

Ok its established that our ECU's do learn but that learning is limited to fuel trim, and that's based solely upon input from the O2 sensor(s). You can read about this on any number of Mazda forums. Once you've done any fuel, ignition, exhaust mod that effects performance you should clear your ECU and let it relearn your new system.

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

the ECU doesn't care about milleage, you just use it, drive it, and it'll adjust and learn the motor. It's more about time than distance. If you just let it sit there and idle, it won't learn much.
