I used to have a '91. The car is as good as a daily driver can get, and it's bulletproof. I'd say get it.
The '93 may come with a B3, B8, BP, or, if you're VERY lucky, a BPT. In any case, a BP or BPT is a direct swap.
Don't expect to have as much fun as with the MX-3, but as a DD, the car is great.

Its likely a B6 or a B8 (SOHC BP).

Either way, you can't kill the motor. My mechanic has one he's trying to kill so he can put the BP in it. He already put in a G series 5 speed to replace the ATX, and he drives highway speeds in 2nd gear everywhere. He hasn't changed the oil all summer...

He also used to work at a scrap yard, and would do crazy s--- like hooking the shop 200 PSI compressor to a tire and running away. Apparently they don't blow up at 200 PSI. Next was put a brick on a B6 gas pedal, and let it run. 5 minutes later, dump a bag of silica sand in the valvecover. after 20 more minutes, get bored, and turn it off where it promptly seizes solid.

The only way I've heard of killing B series motors without boost, is to run them out of coolant or oil

I'd say parts are much easier to find. engine/suspension is all interchangeable with mx-3/323/protege. Most of the interior too.

Its not a sports car or fun car by any means, but indeed, it is bulletproof. Great DD.

Nope, not a B6. The B6 only came on '89 through '91.

The one I had came with a B8. I disassembled the engine after putting 175 k miles to it, and it still had all the clearances within factory specs.
About being a sports car, I agree with Ryan. Throw enough money to it, and you can turn almost any car into a sports car (just look at the honduh crowd...), but as a stocker, it's a family car. I have made 110 mph on it, and it's fairly stable, but it's struggling.
Anyways, even as a stocker, it can give any car in its category a run for their money, anytime.

Inodoro, I hate to argue, but I pulled the HLA's from a B6 8 valve protege w/ low k in the scrap yard to stop the tic in my old B6ME. I don't know if B6 is the real name for it, as B6 here means B6ME (90 hp MX-3 motor) wheras to me, plain old B6 is the 80 hp 8 valve version.

Or maybe it was a 323.

Yes, it was a 323. I'm still wrong. Ha.

Don't worry. Either way, they're both very reliable engines, and a BP or BPT is stil a straight swap. The rest is just details...
