Power Window Wiring

Post by Demonic1 »

92 RS

So, like most of us my drivers side window switch broke (plastic first). Then while messing with it I over-tightened a screw and cracked the circuit board. I know, I know...
So, I still had my donor Protege sitting in the yard and tore apart the switch. Really nice working set of DPDT switches. I modified the plastic so they fit just like the old ones and tried the wiring. I know I did it wrong.
Here's how I wired the switches up (without the orig. board). Can someone give me the right way to wire these?

Well what about the mystery (Blk/Rd) wire? It had to go to something.
Just trying to make sure the wiring was sound before I bust out my soldering iron.

Do a search, there was a post on this about a year ago explaining how to jumper a newer switch to replace an older one. It should help you.

EDIT This was the post I was talking about. viewtopic.php?f=44&t=66265" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You mean this one?

Or this one?

Neither of which have any mention of the Blk/Rd wire. I mean you figure the wiring diagram would know what they hell it is... Also the first one has the wiring for the drivers side, but the passenger side is controlled differently. The pins on the switch are completely different.
I don't think anyone thought of this, but there's like a million posts about the power window switch that have no real information. Also no sticky on the subject.
I plan on doing a writeup on these once I'm done and all is right, but I'm more interested on getting it right the first time.

if you look at the wiring diagram in your last post, you can see that all wiring is accounted for. where are you getting this black red wire from? from your door switch harness?

what you are really lacking is the protege wiring diagram for the protege switch. without that you're shooting in the dark.

Thank you for that one Daninski, I guess I missed my logic while looking that post over.
This image shows the Blk/Rd wire in its default position... with the new wire (12v) soldered directly to it.
Logic dictates that if that works, then the Blk/Rd wire would be 12v also.

ninjajim4, the wiring diagram doesn't mention a single Blk/Rd wire. There are 7 wires in the diagram, 2 each side for the windows, a 12v and a ground. Leaving the (B/L) Blk/Blu wire ...
That just leaves me with more questions though.

Specially since I'm going to be using a simple N/O switch for the pass cutoff switch.

ok i got ya... the diagram you are looking at is for the 92-93 switches. the image below might help you, which is for the new window swith, like you see in that picture you just linked to. but again, what i'm saying is all of this is a no go if you don't know what the wiring on the door switch harness side is doing. and i'm not sure if you understood what i was saying when i said all the wiring is accounted for; what i meant by that is, if you have more than 7 wires on that window switch, and it sounds like you do, then you will have problems. if you have a 94+ car, then you will really have problems, because those only have 6 wires. but again, that's why you'd need the protege wiring diagram (assuming it's not the same).

Bumping this thread.

I have just installed two DPDT switches and I have got both windows working.

HOWEVER, that stupid mystery black/blue wire is the 7th wire left over. It must have something to do with the passenger side lock out because my passenger has no control on their window. Where do I connect it to?

Black/Blue goes to ground. Attach a switch in there if you want to be able to lock the passenger side.

RX8SE3P Bumped the thread and asked the unanswered question. Though if you look at the wiring diagram, it has the answer.
