Just put the engine in ... the mazda mx3 v6 1.8... have jumped the diagnostic box. Initially there was one code on the box code 12. .. throttle position sensor... I tried centreing the sensor... still coding... now there is a bigger problem.. everytime i put the car into gear.. the engine rpm revs up from 650.. to 1300 rpm... does anybody know what would be causing this... as well now instead of one code... 12.. I have a number of different codes as follows: 16, EGR Position Sensor, 17 Feedback system or closed loop system right syde.. 11.. Intake air Thermo Sensor Dynamic Chamber and 4 Distributor... The only real noticeale problem is, again, when the car is put into gear the idel moves up from 650 rpm to 13-1500 rpm.. take it out of gear (5 speed manual) and the rpm returns to normal.. does any body have any ideas re: all the codes and also whats causing the increase in rpms when put into gear..
thanx

Re: Diagnostic Box Help
The TPS is NOT set by centering it. There's a procedure in the online manual involving a feeler guage and an ohm-meter.
Intake air thermo-sensor should be an issue with your VAF.
Not sure about the rest.

Re: Diagnostic Box Help
I apologize for my ignorance.. you say VAF.. I would assume this as something to do with the variation of RPMS when put into gear.. also could you describe the thermo sensor and its location so that I can take a look at it and possibly repair it...

Re: Diagnostic Box Help
The VAF is the volumetric airflow meter. It's a round black plastic piece that is connected just after the intake airbox. It'll have a wire harness connected to it, and is worth a stupid amount of money new.
Maybe somebody else can confirm, because I'm more familiar with a MAF, but I believe that like a MAF, a VAF will have an intake air temp sensor inside of it. I apoligize if this isn't correct.
This part generally isn't repairable, and usually involves replacement.

At the time, it was the only v6 mx3 at a wrecker in central alberta, It was for my last mx3. I had the crazy idle problem before I knew of this site. Mazda told me it was the vaf, you know how stealerships can be..... You have to replace the most expensive part......
