Newb sunroof ?

Post by chimp »

How far does the stock sunroof open up? I searched but didn't find an answer. On some it's just lifted up, but others it slides back? Reason I ask is my sunroof doesn't work right. When I open it, the right side (pass) will begin to slide back, but the left side stays put, and then it gets stuck. I can't close it without pushing up on it and using a screwdriver either. I will get some pics up tomorrow so it's more clear.

First, it should just pop up. Then if you press the button again it will begin to slide back. It seems like yours is stuck or something. Pics will be helpful.

sounds like typical problem our sunroofs have.
it will first pop open at the rear and then whole thing will slide towards the back
there is a little chain that wont grab properly and one side will get stuck right

not really sure how to fix those.. take apart? clean up? or just get a new one

Yeah, that's exactly what I think is happening. Now it just stays in the popped up position, doesn't slide back at all. I can hear the chain not grabbing at all, it just skips.

you can *try* and clean it, but odds are it won't work. get a new one, and keep in mind to look in the shop manual for how to remove the panel and swap onto the new assembly, so you won't have to repaint. i listened to some bonehead on here years ago who said they are tack welded on, but that's a load of a BS

I'm actually going to start prepping the car for a roll on paint job, as it's currently pretty rough, so that's not a big deal. Only problem I'm seeing is that according to the manual it has to slide back at least three inches to take it off, but mine doesn't slide back at all. I'll try to figure something out.

If you can wait a day or two I have the roof in one of my cars ripped apart. I'll look at the track and see if I can identify your problem. Maybe see if you need a part as well and I'll remove it as the sun roof in the car I'm scraping worked fine.

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
