Re: tallest fifth gear, and synchros
Looking at the factory FWD MTX manual you already have the tallest 5th gear available for that tranny. Your only real options is to swap out the whole tranny either to a F25M-R from some '95 european model with a BP-DE final drive ratio is 3.850:1. The '90-94 Protege or '90-91 Canadian 323 LX with the BP-ME 1.8 SOHC had a final drive ratio of 3.619:1 but you will need more torque at low rpms to turn them

First post. Old thread. But I figure reviving an old one is better than starting a new one. Already spent several hours reading through posts here, but I may have missed something (and a lot of info is missing [dead links]).Yoda wrote:The '90-94 Protege or '90-91 Canadian 323 LX with the BP-ME 1.8 SOHC had a final drive ratio of 3.619:1 but you will need more torque at low rpms to turn them
Does a stock B6 (RS) have enough torque/power for driving the 3.619:1 MTX or would that be getting toward being a road hazard? Looking for an almost ultimate economy build (not as ultimate as that frankentranny you made). What about with a taller swapped 5th gear? (someone mentioned Ford Festivas having a .69 5th gear and you mentioned a .68 gear in another post from a few years back)
I'll be posting in that other thread (http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=61427) with a question more suited to your post there.
