Clutch time AFTER 3 MONTHS (fidanza question)

Post by hgallegos915 »

Ok..

So I did the mistake of putting in a crappy ACT clutch for my boosted ze.

Sure the clutch was fine in its n/a mode.

The clutch DIDNT EVEN have 10 thousand miles...

Anywho... So now I got a nice clutchmasters stage 2 clutch.

My question

The fidanza surface.. can I get by by just sanding the surface down?

If it doesnt have any scratches or anything?

the clutch grabs but as soon as I hit boost.. its gone.. and smells like smoke..

OR

do I have to bite the bullet and get yet another NEW fidanza surface?

The way I understand it, a flywheel gets machined (or a new surface) so that your clutch can mate to a flat surface, increasing the lifespan of the clutch.... so that it doesn't wear into the groove the last one cut.
Personally, I would vote new surface.

New Surface, Dont go cheap on your clutch especially if you are boosted. Unless you want more slippage buy the new surface.

Well, I took it out.. the clutch is fairly NEW...

the fidanza surface.. same thing....

now

the bad thing..

the clutch and flywheel are all GREASED UP...

WHY?

because I decided NOT to change a simple 5 dllr CENTER BEARING.. idiot me!!!

and the bearing blew spilling all its contents into the clutch.. so I have a shiny clutch and a slippery flywheel.

Tomorrow Ill sand it.. No sense replacing the surface.. doesnt even have scratches..

I compared it to my old surface and my current one is NEW.

Im still swappign the clutch for the stage 2 clutch. and replacing the bearing of course.

Man I feel like an idiot because I could have saved me this work by replacing the bearing..

sweeet.

Didnt the bearings come with your clutch kit?

And make sure you grease the shift fork/throwout bearing!

I have a clutchmaster stage 1, only have 1500 miles on it, but its very nice so far. I had ~1000miles on it before I started driving the car hard. I still dont push the car that much, but thats for other reasons that should be getting fixed within the next few weeks.

I read that if youre going clutchmasters, get stage one or 3, not the 2r.

I got clutchmasters because I fell for advertisement! I'm happy with mine though, I know others are. I've heard the stronger ACT holds up well, but is very stiff, and hard to use as a DD. I chose clutchmasters because it seems like it had the best of both worlds. I'm not an expert, so you will have to make your own decision! I do know that a 1000 mile break in is recommended for most every clutch. Those 1000 miles the car needs to be driven on both long and short trips, with lots of starting and stopping. Don't dump the clutch or rev. past 2500-3000 for that time so the surfaces have a chance to "mate".

clutchmasters stage 2 R = fail

lasted 18k in my n/a application... if your fidanza surface really doesn't have any wear or grooves you MIGHT be ok.... but I can't see it and feel it in person...

I do know that those surfaces are not normal like a regular flywheel...
