I had a component system hooked up in my RS but since I am selling it, I am taking my system out and putting it in the GS. I ran all new 12 Gauge wires through the doors so that I could power both the tweeter and the mids separately. This was a HUGE PITA. I took off the rubber boot thingy that bridges the door to the car and drilled holes through the plastic that holds all the wires. Feeding the wire through that was a pain. Well, now I have to do it all over again on my other car!
Unfortunately, I cracked a rib a week ago, and being the person that I am I spent yesterday starting this rewiring project...and re-injured myself by twisting in an awkward position (the nature of wiring). So now that I have some time on my hands to do nothing but lay in bed,I figured I'd see if anyone had some advice to make this a better/easier wiring process.
How hard is it to re-align the doors after you take them off? My doors shut fine and I have no issues with them, so I would rather not have to mess with them, but getting the boot off of the doors with them attached to the car is quite difficult, let alone trying to drill a hole or carve through the plastic inside it. I could drill a separate hole through the door/car, but that would promote rust and probably damage the wires over time. I decided that 12 Gauge was overkill, so I decided to just get some regular 14gauge outdoor speaker wire, instead of the double shielded stuff I had before. This means that I don't have to drill as big a hole as I did before.
Whats the best way to do this? I know I'm not the first to do this, as I'm only running a mild system (Polk Momo MMC6500)

Drilling a hole is fine, just paint the exposed metal then go to your auto parts store and buy rubber grommets to finish it. Make sure the grommet holes are small enough to hold to wires snug. Ya, I drilled my plastic piece to accept larger wires, a little tricky for sure.

Re: Correct way to run wire through doors?
How did you remove the rubber piece/plastic pieces on your car? Did you just pull/push up so that it snaps out of its clips? I found it very difficult to do, I was trying to pry against it w/ a big flathead screwdriver when I re-hurt my rib, but it didn't seem like it was working too well. Hmm, for some reason I forgot about rubber grommets. I might just do this, and wrap the wires w/ tape then some wire loom which I have kickin around.

through the stock harness is the best way imo... If not elect tape the wire so it doesn't stand out & take a small unibit to the door and car then use small grommet OR 3m strip caulk.
