Picked up a V6 mx3. Question...

Post by DBrooks47315 »

Hey guys, im new here and i just traded my buddy a 93 Ford probe for his 92 mx3.

I have a question, and should be easily answered. The car seems kind of loud. Like, loud up in the front end. It kinda sounds like it has an exhaust leak somewhere up in the front of the car, but he said its not. And that the engines are loud engines. And its all engine noise.

Was just curious if this is true.

what do you mean by loud, what kind of noise? Hissing, whining, etc. Is it stock, any intake/headers etc.

At night you can pop open the hood. Turn on the car.
Push the lever thing on the throttle body down and as you rev the engine, see if there is any smoke coming from the headers.

Yeah, we need more info, and a pic of the engine bay.
I took out the heat shield stuff, under the hood, and did the CAI, and some other stuff. That makes it louder.

He replaced the exhaust from the cat back, its just a stock exhaust. Ill have to get some pics tomorrow. It sounded to me like an exhaust leak. Or maybe it was just because of the enclosed area we were in. Ill be taking plenty of pictures tomorrow so i will post them. Thanks for any replies.

Well i got underneath, and there is a bunch of black s--- around where the exhaust joins the cat. And on one of the welds there is a hole. So im pretty sure thats where the leak is coming from because it sounds like its coming from directly underneath you when your in the car. Guess ill have to get that fixed now lol.

If it's the cross over pipe it's pricey. You can get headers with the crossover pipe off Ebay for around $160 delivered. That's just crazy. I bought a set and so did Nitefire. We're both happy with our purchases.
