kaboshe's rs-t

Post by kab-rst »

i decided to find a way to spen a night, so i started the car logbook

1996 mx-3 rs,
i bought it with the gtx engine swap and nothing else, no rims,no tires, no audio , basicaly the car itself

Image

swaped brakes and mags,
Image

upgraded the interrior
Image
Image

the last management installed was a oh-so-crappy-suplementary-injector-type
drank like an alchoolic but was running straight(obd2+peggyback)

lucky enough, we have a mazda mech not too far that install Megasquirt management, and masicaly saved the engine life
the fuel/spark ,fan control, msd helped big time.gaz consomation went down by half and gaigned 20-25tq due to the fine tuning
Image
still using the same bov, i do like the type-s sound, but i seriously thinking about going to the hks world

shortly after upgrading the management i tried to do some dragrace, wich was totally forbiden in my babying-habbit ...
i felt in love with the adrenaline rush, and the new laws here in quebec makes u wish you couldn't make your car go faster than 90mph

did a couple of crappy run, time to learn how to launch proprely ''not at the green light''
i hardly went faster than 14.4 with the 16'' with matrack tires, dropped at 13.9 @101 with 14''wintertires.
Image
Image
Image

had plenny of fun, but here , winter is kinda bad, so storage time came, and it rimes with investments
i really wanted to go faster and the ''way too fast spooling ''of the vj-20 kinda bored me out, since on the high-rev the boost just fade away

i ordered some parts with the firm intention of having a really mean setup for 2008
Image
i dont remember the trim, but i GUESS it's .47 60 a/r ,
the t3 is oil cooled, i had a great deal on it , so i took it without arguing
the mani is from etdracing, and the wastegate from tial(spring rated at 1bar)

i couldn't start it, because of my innability to weld a downpipe, had to wait to spring(hard as hell).
during the cold month, i had to change a couple of rusted parts, since i was sending it to the body shop anyway(rust on the roof and bad cancer around windshield)

removed the hatch, putted a shaved one
Image

changed the front bumper wich was cracked since 2002
Image

i FINALY founded non-rusted electrical door. after 2-3 years, and ironicaly i founded them on an US imported gs
Image

getting uglier

changed the clutch
Image
for a nice sprigned bully 6 puck
Image
changed it TWICE
Image
founded z3 wing , wich is heart breaking for me since i have such a love/hate relation ship with body mods. i stoped there
Image

stripped the interior and worked all winter. dreaming of starting the beast week after week

Image

assembeled things, have to go to the apointement with mr.i'll-tune-the-new-turbo-setup-wich-will-cost-me-too-much
since i have to make it street legal to bring it back home after the mechanical mods, i borroed the front bumper of a friend(wich i had to mod a bit to fit the i/c )
Image

Image

the running gag lasted 36hours, and it was enclosed in a garage for 3 weeks.
i decided to make the wg vent to atmosphere, i really wanted to do some noise, since the exaust i have is so silent.

Image

Image

vid of the completed setup
Image

cant go higher than 10-11psi since my injector are saturated(sorry for the poor english)

i got it back on saturday, and went to the bodyshop on sunday, heart breaking period where you have to leave something you just got,,,defenetly worth it tho

Image

last week end
Image
Image
Image
Image

i prefer raw coments, tell me what you really think,
for those wondering, i scrapped one of my mags, so i had to switch for the protege oem one,it's temporary.
the steering is a cheap guess, i have the drag launch module on the left, and the co2 intercoler sprayer kit is on the way for the right one(i go manually with a paint ball tank for now rofl)

I love the Color and the Mazdaspeed style front bumper! The rims really go well with the setup, not too ricy, but give it a non-stock look! I am still deciding about the Z3 fenders. Great RS man!

the color is spectra blue mica, from the toyota palette

the bumper and wings are the only mods i would ever do, the road here cant permit bodykit+drop, so since i'm allready dropped, i prefer a different one, not a lower one

the wings makes me feel weird, i like them and hate them at the same time.
i wanted to do a street legal dailydriven drag beast, wich will be acheived when i finally up the boost
the rims aren't so bad, the tires are

yes i do , in fact i swapped the MS management at the same time as i got my msd installed. so i cant say i noticed a dramatical difference from teh msd, but the spooling time on the vj20 almost disapeared and i had boost at 2k rpm,15psi at 3200,
plus the fuel consumption dropped dramaticaly compared to what i had before.
ignition is part of the management afterall:P

i blew a cv axelshaft and a differential last time at the strip, so i had to replace it with one spare escort gt transmition i had. wich was pretty deceving since i had a lot of problems with it(shifter'S bushing stuck like hell, broke vss etc)

since i have basically no life when my car is down, i decided to ''atempt to repair my transmition myself''
after HOURS we sucessfully got the rs-t out of the garage.

here the price of running constent 13:P

good
Image

BAD
Image

notice that one end is striiped BAD

Image

blew one, had one spare,luckly

look at the damge the diff took, it's stunning, no wonder why i couldn't shift
Image

WORST
Image
Image

swapped everything in, and hoped it works
Image
Image
Image
Image

if you EVER disasemble a transmition, arm ureself with a pack of those
Image

life saver when trying to hold the 2 gear shaft in place

a lot of fun, and a real nightmare, casicaly 48 hours ago i had the fear of my life of opening a transmition
now i would repeat it tomorow

if u think what u did to that poor tranny was bad

what i did to mines where far worse...

1. blow diff on f-series trans (track)
2. fubar another f-series trans gears, diff everything gone (Road )

2and3 grenade a diff in 94 mazda miata (track) that suck i had to replace it and i did.

3. Blow diff on a mazda g-series trans (track)
4. Grenade the diff on a Kia g-series trans (Road)
5. current Kia g-series trans still alive after one year..

these trans are easy to work with taking apart and putting back.. after 20 plus not including what i have done with my trans its gets easy... put the first time always sucks i know what u mean.

here a few pic of my last trans..
