Noob alarm question!

Post by fowljesse »

I'm a little emberrased that I don't know this...
How do I turn down the sensitivity on my alarm?
I assume there's a setting on it, but, don't know where it is.
I'm tired of it going off whenever a redneck drives by.
If it matters, it's an Alpine.
Thanks
:)

It depends. If the alarm has a separate shock sensor module, it'll usually be mounted to the steering column, or a solid object close by there. The external shock sensor modules usually have 2 little dials on them. One is for the sensitivity in order to put out warning beeps, the other dial is for the sensitivity in order to set off the full alarm.

If the alarm does not have a separate shock sensor module, the shock sensor will be integrated into the alarm module itself. Usually in this case, you have to get into the programming sequence, and change the sensitivity that way. On the back of the alarm module there'll be a model number. Go to the manufacturer's website, and look up the programming procedure. It usually involves steps like opening the hood, flashing the hood pin, turning the iginition on/off several times, pressing the brake pedal, etc.

Oy Vey... Thanks.
If it's not on the column, I'll put up with it

find the alarm, its probably under the steering colum behind the panel or behind the center console on top of the ecu or behind the glove box zip tied to something. next is to track the wires down, there might be a seperate shock sensor mounted to something. thing to try is to turn the sensor down or to move it to somthing that has a little play to it like the wiring harness under the dash. anything stuck right to the frame or anything solid will almost allways go off. pretty common places to find a basic install for a alarm, most older ones or cheap alarms will go off randomly almost from small vibrations. its good to upgrade to something higher end for the cost. ive got a 2 mile pager set up with four seperate cuts for various things, digital shock sensor, digital tilt sensor, glass break sensor and a dual zone proximity sensor as well as some peizo sirens inside. all this was only about 325.00, installed it myself which saved alot in labour plus my install is better than any shop could do around here.

Thanks! I will look for it, and check it out. It doesn't go off as often as I let on... There was just one time with a really loud truck, and I think the other times were cats.
I actually don't really need an alarm, but am glad to have one, mainly for not having to use the key.
