Modified Sunroof?? (Glass)
Has anyone thought of just cutting a hole in our sunroof and sticking a piece of sunroof glass in there???

I have thought of something similar.. in my case I wanted to replace the entire panel with a smoked glass panel.. After talking to a couple of custom glass shops.. there were 2 problems.. 1.. cost.. to do what I was thinking would have been at least $500 probably more. 2.. functionality.. the glass would need to be at least 1/4 inch thick.. and this would make the panel too heavy for the little sunroof motor to move on a regular basis. That motor really isnt all that strong. You might be able to insert a glass panel into the panel.. but it would be smaller of course and undoubtedly the glass panel would have to be fixed in place and not be removeable or able to be opened.. this would be for structural reasons.. there is a bit of cross bracing under that cloth cover that would have to be cut to allow for the glass panel to be inserted. And I still think it would make the panel too heavy for the little sunroof motor to be able handle.

Yeah I'm not talking about adding a whole glass panel. I agree, that might be too heavy for the motor. Just a small piece of glass. I might be able to fabricate something for the structure...... maybe get an extra sunroof from a junkyard...Tunes67 wrote:I have thought of something similar.. in my case I wanted to replace the entire panel with a smoked glass panel.. Isn't the one from an Escort a very very close fit? Just drop that in there instead?

I was at the junkyard recently and I saw a pop up glass roof (tinted) in an mx-3 RS... It wasn't quite as big as the sunroof in the GS.
I bet you could find something to work in the junkyard...
