Bad experience with corksport; alternatives?

Post by nightfire »

Wow what a waste of time that was. I ordered a bunch of parts 3 months ago. The backorder on some stuff was like 6 weeks, but that didn't bother me at the time.

Well after not hearing from them for something like 2 months, I called them, and they told me my stuff was in. Ok, great I thought (slightly miffed that they waited for me to call them).

So I tell them to go ahead with the order.

A week goes by.. nothing. No charge on my CC. No email. No tracking #.

I call them, and they say they're trying to track down a rear strut tower bar. Er, I thought my order was in?

Another week goes by. Nothing.

Called last monday, and they told me that there was still a backorder on the rear strut tower brace. Aggravated, I tell them to ship whatever they have. "No problem sir."

By yesterday afternoon, still nothing.

So I send an email telling them to cancel the order, because I'm going to source locally. Can't wait any longer for something that may or may not arrive (it's been 3 weeks since they claimed they had the gear!).

No response.

I call today, and the only guy who seems to be able to help is "on the phone with someone from France." He'll "get back to me," like that's ever happened.

Another 3 hours go by, and I call again. Finally I get the guy. "Sure ok no problem! Order cancelled!"

Sigh.

So, anyone have any suggestions on other places that can get mazdaspeed and other mx-3 stuff? Anything in Canada?

Wow.. that was a long post. Grr.

The guys at Lazer were telling me that you were in the store. One of the items you were asking about has been basically been discontinued for many years although it is still listed in the catalogs. The last time I talked to the factory tech reps back in '99-00 at a trade show in the T.dot, they said that these P/N# were only be manufactured as a special order and production were start only when they had enough orders to make up there min. production qty. As a result of this they may only get produced once a year if even that often this days as fewer and fewer of the car built on the BG 323 chassis are no longer on the road. The other thing that you might have not been aware of is that they are not a full assy and only a cartridge that goes into a modified stock housing.

Spooky..... how did you know it was me at lazer auto? :)

Am I the only one with an mx-3 there? Hahah.. and are you talking about the konis? I actually found someone on ebay who claims to have them in his hands, so I ordered a set (reds).

I'll have to call Lazer and let em know because they were checking on a price/availability for me.

That is funny there are a lot of people on the West Island that call me "Spook". This mostly because I suddenly disappear for weeks or months at a time and after almost 20 years my friend don't really know what I do for a living.

Actually I'm almost like staff at Lazer and have been associated with them for about 13 years. Me and the guys at Lazer have a long standing relationship with the MX-3 and had a lot to do with working with the aftermarket industry in the development of parts for the MX-3 in the early days. Unfortunately many of the projects died at the prototyping stage some due product liability issues the manufactures lawyers didn't like. Others died for lack of interest (no one back then would even send a email to the various manufactures to say they interested in the product if it were produced). Then there were issues of getting people to lend there cars to beta test parts and get a free part at the same time. Believe it or not there were no takers. Then there were products that everybody wanted but a small number of MX-3er thought progress was going to slow and made their views graphically know which pissed off the people in charge getting the products to market who then shut down further development. Then there were a few products where a couple of french guys here in Montreal wanted to have there own mechanical install the beta test parts and disappeared from the face of the earth which also did nothing for the reputation of the MX-3ers.

Frank actually called me at my office for the 411 on Cork. We were talking about the Koni's but he wasn't working there back in the days when I would go out to tech seminars with the now Ex- Lazer staff that are now tech or market R & D guys in the aftermarket distribution channels in Canada. Frank also mention your name and looking at your post, putting 2 and 2 together it wasn't hard to figure out the guy Frank was talking about and the guy starting this thread are the same person.

lol.. I see. Small world. :)

Well, it's a shame I entered the mx3 market too late. I had a '95 escort before and was planning a bp turbo swap, but someone hit me on the highway a few years ago and caused enough damage that I decided just to drive it into the ground (and take the free insurance money). Needless to say, it took longer than I was expecting; I drove it for almost 3 more years.

The whole time I was eyeing the mx3 as a replacement but it wasn't until the escort was nearly undriveable (due to horrible neglect) that I actually snagged my current ride.

Ah well, more custom parts I guess.
