hey everyone well I searched the forum and couldnt find anyone that had painted the headliner. I am really sick of the grey headliner as its the only thing left in my car that is grey and it looks ugly. Anyways I was wondering if there is a way to paint it or if I have to rip it apart and try and put new material on it. I really just want to get it black and if its not too hard than I would like to do MX3 in red, probably just tape it off and paint it. Anyone ever painted the headliner before? And how do you remove it?
Thanks

I would remove it 100 times ove rtrying to paint it in the car. They do sell fabric spray in red or black that you can use. However, from what I've seen it looks like crap. Headliner material is cheap and can be bought at most any auto apholstery shop or store. I would take it out and recover it if I were you.
To take the headliner out you have to remove all the body panels that touch the headliners edge. Then it has some clips that hold it on. Gently find the clips by pulling on the liner to find where they are and then pry the clips loose.

just change it, its not labour extensive and it wont cost u much, it'll take you like 10-15 mins max to take it out , cover it with some nice material like suede and glue it on and ur set, oh be careful to search and use the right materials cuz u dont want your headliner falling on you on a hot day.

One day I decided I was going to recover my headliner and not use paint (it looks bad). I went to my local fabric store and picked out something nice that kind of matched the dash look. I bought some expensive glue stuff and got the material on fine... no wrinkles or anything! It looked great for about 2 weeks then we had a really hot day and I opened my door and my headliner was draped over my seats.
I have not tried to redo it since but it is on my to do list. I would recommend buying the lightest material possible to put up there (the stuff I got was kind of heavy)!! Or maybe I needed a stronger glue... I have no idea. Good luck!
