How to not get ripped off?

Post by KA3AX »

Hey to all! just one quick question...

How do I tell if the engine is KLZE or KLDE if it is not in the car. Say I want to buy a KLZE engine and this one guy says his engine is a KLZE and I want to make sure that it is NOT a KLDE. I cant check the compression because the engine is not in the car, so what are the physical differences? Or , how can I be sure that the engine he is offering me is a real KLZE?

And YES I did searched and searched, if anyone can show me a link that would be awesome also.

Thanks in advance!!!

This is alot easier if the motor is out of the car already. Look at the codes stamped on the heads. They should read kl31 something instead of kl01. You can also check the codes stamped on the cams. They should read the same as the ones on the head. YOu can also pull a spark plug and shine a light in the cylinder to check what the top of the piston looks like. The ze piston should have a flat top.

Looking for another Red GS.

Thanks a lot man!!!

What about the ECU and MAF sensor, where do I get those (as they don't come with the engine). What about the AC compressor and condenser, will the 1.8 bolt right up to the ZE? Also the power steering pump and all those things, can I use my 1.8 original parts? Which axles should I use, my 1.8 or from a 626/mx-6?

Thanks again!

This is a pic from a KLZE. The other side should read KL31 1A1. Cams should read the same.

Also, look at the FAQ under Intake Manifolds.

You gotta watch out tho.. the millenia klde looks EXACTLY like a JDM ze. Only way to tell i believe is to check the pistons bu taking a spark plug out a shining a light . They gotta be flat. If they are cup pistons then its a de. Im not sure if millenia de comes with EGR where our EGR is . I thin k it may go on the manifold under that hole... not sure tho.

I don't want to sound like a jerk but, honestly these are such common and overly-regurgitated questions that can be found in the search function or the FAQs. No one wants to answer them anymore. It's not because no one wants to help but, c'mon, there's a reason this site has a search function. I found that out myself so I'm saving you the trouble.

If the search is too much, the FAQs section has ALOT of info. Actually, go there first.
