Mini Speakers in my Air Vents?

Post by illapino »

what are those things? in my central vents above the column where temperature and cdplayer is, i can see what appears to be small speakers stuck inside behind the vent grill! what the hell, i says. The side air vents on the driver side and passenger side don't have that crap in them: they're actually vents, gaping holes. what the hell are those in the center vents then? i don't think sound comes out of them. they just look like little speakers and they have some sort of red label on them.. part of the dorko alarm system????

also, when i have my vents on (which is pointless in summer in a car that has no Air Conditioner), it sounds as though a dried up leaf is stuck behind the grill. mini speakers in my vents and something stuck in them. little teeny weeny things like that really piss me the piss off... AND on!

Lol, that happens to me once in a while. I park under trees at my parents house. Leaves have a hard time getting in, but the worse is in spring when the trees bud. The flowers get it, and I sometimes get a faceful of them, especially if i left the vent fan on high, lol.

Damn. I was hoping I was missing a filter or something, but if everyone has leaves flying in =(

I think I hit a bird once or something, I had feathers bombarding me for a month. I might mount a filter somehow eventually, cause I can't stand how dirty my dash gets after I use the defroster.

well I think we can all say that they're not stock...whatever they are lol. Why don't you yank the vents out and have a look? if they are speakers then there would be wires.

Turns out they were speakers. Tweeters. Custom fitted behind the grills so they actually cut pieces out of the grill to accomodate these tweeters as well as tie-wraps to hold them in place.......

On the back reads Rockwood XR-37, similar to the ones above: XR-63. Unfortunately, the clips of my center air vent grill (where the screws mount the piece in place) are both broken. I will replace it with one from a junkyard
