Temperature problem

Post by monkey »

Need some help here...I swaped a klze into my mx3..It runs and sounds great, but my engine temp guage doesn't work...On my old engine there were three sensors on the left side of the engine right around the cap for the coolant..on my new engine there are only two, so I have one clip not pluged in,could this be why my temp guage doesn't work and if so how do i fix the problem? Anyone with any ideas . your help would be appreciated..

Two of the plugs are the same on that side, but different colors. Try swapping them and see if it works. I know they are all temp sensors, but cannot remember what color plugs are for what.
One is for the temp guage, One if for the radiator fan, and one is for the ECU to know what temp the motor is.

yep its true .
i think the gauge is the black single spade connetor i will check at the shop tomorrow
swaping the neck suks!!
you may be able to drill and tap the one you have installed on the car or move the temp sender to the other side of the tube and dril and tap the t stat housing
you have to pull the intake to do either but that alot easer than pulling the timing covers to change the filler neck!

I've made the import recommendation of the filler neck assembly numerous times in this forum. Apparently that was missed. As well this recommendation is touched on in other members ZE install monlogues so the information has been documented in detail in the past.
XxantwawnxX is correct although when I was at the importers last it was quite evident that almost all of a certain type of ZE (either MS8's or Eunos 800's) had the 3 sensor assembly where as the other ZE only had 2 and it was quite consistant with all of the 12 or so ZE's I saw there.
Of the 3 sensors, the single black wire one is for your temp gauge. The black plastic 2-wire one is for the ECU and the green 2-wire plastic unit is for the fan/ECU.
Two options available - drill and tap for the second of the 2-wire sensors or as previously mentioned, import your K8 one. The drill and tap procedure has recently been re-posted (with pics I believe). I hope you kept your old K8 around for further possible importing of other common parts for the future. This too I have recommended in the past.
Monkey, it would be a litle more helpfull if you were able to provide year and mods to date of your MX as all any of us can do is make general statements and recommendations because it does make a difference when people are trying to help. You'd be helping yourself out in the future too. It's strongly recommended that you complete your profile set-up with some supplementary info about your car. If you live relatively near me, give me a call and we can discuss in greater detail. Number is in Toronto contact list.

I could swing by on my way home from work (5 minutes away) and go over it with you.
