Mazda Mx-3 Refuses to start- PLEASE HELP!

Post by my13waysused »

I was wondering if someone could help me figure out what could be wrong with my car...right now it's my only one and it's driving me crazy!

1993 Mazda Mx-3 1.6L 4cyl, manual with 176xxx

One day, I pulled in the driveway after running errands, and I came outside later to go to class and the car didn't start. It was running fine -great- as usual before I turned it off, and wasn't hesitating or making any unusual noises.

Car cranks normally, but won't start
I replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, coil, and the module under the coil, rotor and distributor cap. The timing chain was replaced about 30xxx ago, and I looked at it- seemed fine. The car is getting gas...just no spark at the spark plug wires. I have also noticed that the check engine light does not display when I turn the key, and I read somewhere that this is an indication of the computer not getting power..

Do i need to replace the distributor or could it even be the ecu, and if so where is the ecu located? Is there anything else that could be wrong?

Please help!
thank you

Couple of things wrong with this post. First.. if you have a 1.6L 4cyl engine.. You are posting in the V6 engine forum. Second.. none of the mazda engines that came stock from the factory in the MX-3 ever had timing "Chains" to my knowledge. All have timing Belts. You could use the online shop manual to look up on the Check Engine Light issue though. The online shop manual is located on the main http://www.mx-3.com home page. Its a link in the column on the left side of the page. Maybe check the fuses in the engine bay and under the dash. Or even double check and make sure the plugs going into the ECU are fully seated.
