Post by kimlin85 »

my mx-3 needs to be repainted, and i found the same paint i already have, the raspberry metallic for $42 a gallon. is this a reasonable price? and how many gallons does it take to paint a car?

It wont take a gallon to paint mx3 outside, you dillute it with reducer(thinner) and hardener (catalyst) then you need clear coat also which uses catalyst also. you might also consider putting some sealer on before painting car, especially if you gonna have any body work done

What would be the general cost of a respray. I've got a black MX-3, there's nothing wrong with the paint work, I just want to give it a new black metalic coat. I'm in the UK by the way.

I payed 1300 for mine, but it needed some parking lot dings knocked out and the paint was chipping pretty badly.

If you plan on painting it yourself you need to get some book on painting first. They will give alot of information that you'll need; especially info on tools and space to paint. I used one called "Custom Painting". Got it from Barnes and Noble and it is one of the better book for a "do it yourselfer".

thanks for the advice guys. i'm just gonna buy the paint myself and have a shop around here paint my car. i was so afraid i wouldnt be able to find my paint color, or that it would be way to pricey.

places that sell paint can track down car colors back to 30's and give you exact match of paint without problems, as long as they know what theyre doing
