Intake opinions

Post by AshesofPepper »

No, this isn't a "where can i find a CAI for my MX-3" post....i think...

So, i want to hear some testimonials about peoples intakes, no matter what kind you have, be it PRM, Teggy, or Homemade. Tell me about em! What you like, what you don't, your mpg gains, your power gains(if you had a dyno or something done), sound ect..... I have an extremely limited budget for my car and i want to find out if it's worth getting the PRM intake or if i can live with making my own or having one made locally.

Go at it and HAVE FUN =)

Sorry to Hijack this thread...

If you have a 2.5 (DEorZE) and are using the 2.5 intake from VAF to throttlebody. which PRM would you order the one for the Probe GT or Mx-3 GS cuz the intake tube is different.

AshesofPepper:
I had the teggy one for a bit on my ze. Nothing I dislike, no really hp improvement, sounds was great though. This is the only thing I had to say

Ateana:
neither, the probe engine bay is not like ours and I guess the intake would hit on something but I am not sure about that one.

After the fact feedback is also available througha search, although it will take considerable time, nonetheless, it is there. For supplemental wrt dyno (before/after), I recommended that you get yourself heavily into the Probetalk Forums. You'll find substantially more info in this regards wrt HP with/without CAI etc. Information is well documented already, and within your means between the 2 Forums. A modified Integra CAI is your best option since you are financially strapped.

arent BBS for talking in kinda real time john maybe getting to know a few people on the board.. you seem to like the idea of this being used as just a reference tool. I know your probably getting tired of answering newbs questions so sit down let someone else take it for awhile. I don't mean to be a prick but it seems that no one is allowed to ask questions on here anymore.

Not to be stand-offish but i just want to find out what people think... Make my own little preferred parts list, maybe.

See, later in life i would like to start my own garage, so i just wanna see what people want from custom parts. I'm still young but i do think i have a future in this, and i believe i have the drive to start my own shop. So i just want some opinions, but then again this might not be the right board to be the right board. Would you like me to move threads like this to general disscussion? or maybe the off-topic board? Don't want to seem immature, so just let me know.

I would like to think that it's primarily a reference tool, at least when it comes to the various Forums dedicated to specific technical info. I have no heartache answering any newbs questions. I do find it disturbing from time to time that there are those who simply wish to be spoonfed or are too lazy to do a search and would rather have others post something for their own personal conveniance when the information they seek has already been documented. One would probably get more of what they're seeking by doing a search and posting back queries on their findings of that search - if in fact there were any. I love to clown around and joke on here as much as the next person, but I believe there's a time and place for that. Check out some of my jokes in the Off Topic. Not sure why people would get the impression that they're not allowed to ask questions - they still are.

Not sure what you mean by this. If it means that your using 2.5" diameter tubing between the TB and VAF than you may be disturbing the pre-measured air speed that's created by keeping as close to OEM as possible. DE's and ZE's use a 60mm venturi in the TB and I believe the oem flex tube's inside diameter is in the neighbourhood of that - around 2.75" at least. Not sure on the selection of which PRM to use. I would say try to replicate the same inside diameter size as the oem tubing that's between the VAF and airbox.

I have an Integra CAI. It was quite easy to install. Have no data to verify mpg gains. Can't really say say if it provides any HP gains either since it was installed at the same time the ZE was. No dyno done (yet), but there are a few posts with that info on Probetalk. I do love the sound it makes, especially when backing off of the throttle - kinda like a BOV, well sorta. I've already posted my recommendations wrt a cost effective CAI - Ebay 90-93 Integra 2 piece unit.

Sorry I meant using the the stock piping that came on the mx-6 that runs from the throttlebody to the VAF - instead of the pipe that comes on the mx-3

i've found the best to use is a K&N panel filter, the car immediately felt more responsive
have tried various pod filter setups, didn't find any improvements, perhaps a decrease in responsiveness even
sounds good though! :D
