smoke after oil change.

Post by barbarino69 »

Alright, so I changed my oil last sunday. I also changed out the filter. While I changed the filter, some oil did leak , but I didnt think it was any big deal. Well today I was driving around and noticed a pretty weird smell and then noticed the smoke. It looked like it was coming from underneath the engine when i opened the hood. So could teh cause of the smoke be the oil that spilt and now its burning off? Will this damage anything and what should I do. I tried to wipe off as much oil as i could see that spilt when i had the car on my ramps. Help me out, I cant afford to screw up this engine before I get my ZE. :(

more than likely its the extra oil that spilled just burning off.

Should also eyeball the oil filter again w/engine running to make sure no oil is coming from a leaky filter seal.

(btw, off the topic but strictly personally speaking, I enjoy a good smoke myself after an oil change. )

Yeah, I second that suggestion - because when I had my car serviced by a buddy of mine who is a mechanic, he also forgot to sufficiently wipe off all the extra oil from draining the engines sump.

Consequently, I also had to put up with smoke gushing from under the engine, (very scary I tells you), and that dreadful smell of superheated oil.

It turned out to be oil not wiped away after the service.

Went back and had it cleaned properly & the horrid smell of oil (and the smoke) practically disappeared within hours.

That is most likely the case - but get it checked professionally just to be sure OK?
