Ok if removed my vics shutters from my intake manifold when i got my custom intake built!!! No my car seems to lack power in the low rpm's, could the shutters cause this?? If not does anyone know what could??

Uhh... yeah.

Mazda engineers designed the VICS system for a reason...

I just welded mine shut to make an easier more fluid and quick flow for the manifold. Of course I am boosted.

why not weld them on the open postion? It would allow for greater air flow.... anytime your boosted, and you can remove a restriction in the intake manifold, its a good thing.

Ryan (bpt323) on clubprotege has proven through modding the VICS and smoothing out the inside of the chamber, you can achieve a smoother powerband, resulting in a few extra hp. I would hate to think what not having the 2nd set of runners is doing to your top end.....

How did he "mod" his system? VICS is different that VIRS correct? I figured that if you welded them closed the runners would be as short as possible and make it a straight shot. Should I have welded them open?

I just unplugged the wires to one of the solenoids, which opens the valves and keeps them that way. I have tried running my car with VICs operational and with it wide open, i definately saw a nice gain with them open. I think it also depends on what all you have done to your car. But i saw improvements both N/A and boosted.

Also when open you have more mass to your airflow, best bet would be to use the bottom half of the manifold and make a custom upper half(plenum) the beautiful runners will act similar to that of a velocity stack. You gotta love those huge ports leading into the bottom half of the manifold!!!!
