Water in door speakers

Post by MX-SLICK »

I washed my car today, and i decided to pull apart my door speakers and install new ones shortly after. There is plenty of water and moisture in the current speakers (alpine type S) and it has caused some damage. There is not enough room between the magnet and the window to install the plastic peice that came with the stock speakers...any ideas?

I fabricated ~180 degree plastic speaker basket shields, similar to the old plastic factory shield, by cutting out of the bottom of plastic 64 oz. bottles (ammonia bottle but anything with the right diameter will work.) My speaker magnets have ~1/16+" clearance for the window to roll down. The shield extends out over the spkr baskets to = the magnet depth and still leaves space for the window clearance when rolled down. Hope that explanation makes sense.

i had the same problem only i destroyed my factory speakers another idea you can go to canadain tire or a best buy or what ever is around you and you can buy plastic speaker baffels canadain tire calls them bass boomers but what ever i just cut the down so they wouldn't hit the window and sicliconed them to the factory shield so they are water tight but you can seal them with anything you can find to get over your speaker or enclose the factory shield i only used the shield because my kenwoods are a little too small and barely miss the door skin to drill them in

I used the factory protectors that were on the factory speakers. Then I spaced out the aftermarket speakers with 3/4" MDF spacer I made. I got plenty of room behind the speakers now, and they don't get wet!!!!
