What Type Of Oil For MTX?

Post by Nd4SpdSe »

I'm gonna get my tranny fluid changed, i just wanna know what grade and type of oil to use. I'm gonna see if it help out the syncros. I'm whatwhat agressive driver, so if theres a better grade to use for heavy use.

Redline or Royal Purple. 75W-90.

I couldn't shift wuickly without grinding gears in my car when I first bought it last summer. Dropped the fluid and put in Royal Purple 75W90 and now it shifts like butter.

Being in Canada, you might want to look at Redline or Royal Purple's stuff for Manuals that take ATF fluid. The owners manual says you can use ATF for cold weather. Maybe a mix of that with some of thier 75W90 would be good???? I know the name of Royal Purple's is Synchromax®. Not sure what the Redline is called.

I'm sure you can get Royal Purple and/or Redline if you look around enough.

So i have 2 questions:
1)Is that the right stuff
2)How many leters will i need?

Yep. That's the right stuff. Kinda a rip off, even with Canadian exchange rate, but if that's the only place.....

I believe it's 3 liters you'll want. I bought 4 and have a half liter left, but I spilled a bunch on the floor being a jackass.

1) If you're neat you can fill it with 3. I bought 4
and have one untouched bottle left over. However,
I had a mechanic do mine. Just didn't seem like a
fun job. If you do buy it, Julian Bradbury's site recommends MT-90, NOT MTL.
2) Redline sounds good on paper but I'm running it
now and wouldn't hesitate to try something else (ex. Royal Purple). It's better than stock but nothing amazing. I've heard that BG Synchroshift is fantastic but haven't tried it myself.

check out candian tire they can get you redline and royal purple. what you gotta do is go to their parts counter and ask to look in the performance catalogue. they share a warehouse with a few other performance shops like performance improvements. I'm not sure how much you could get them from but its worth a shot maybe you can get it for less than $19

I would agree not to use ATF however I called the mazda dealer a few years ago when I bought my mx-3 and they suggested ATF. Makes you wonder.
Oh and also My MTX only held 2 liters of oil.

Sorry to say this, but if its GL5 and smells bad, it almost certainly has sulphur in it, which will halve the life of the synchros and bearings.
