After 2.5 swap problems

Post by Blueman »

After my American 2.5 swap I can't get rid of the check engine light or straighten out my intermitting idle problems.

I've tried changing ECU's with no success. Hold light flashes along with idling problems when using 2.5 ECU. 2.5 ECU is from a 5 speed and my car is automatic. Does that matter?

Also I've tried using 2.5 VAF but car won't idle at all with it installed with 2.5 or 1.8 ECU.

I have finally put the 1.8 ECU back in with 1.8 VAF, now I'm getting codes 2, 17 and 24. O2 sensors have already been changed. Plus car still idles up and down, somtimes so far down car cuts off. Any good advice would be appreciated.

use the 2.5 vaf and the 1.8 ecu, check your tps setting(there are instructions in the v6 faq). did you pull off the manifold at any time? you may have air leaks check the rubber tube that goes from the tb to the vaf for cracks, 17/24 are inversion codes so you may have other problems, as for the 5speed ecu you can't use it on an automatic. Good luck

speaking from personal experience. I had codes 17 and 24. I had the ze swap done and immediatly had a CEL. I changed both O2 sensors, hoping it would get rid of the CEL, it didn't. I started researching and found that if you are using an improper vaf/ecu combo it will set off those codes. So I got a VAF from a 626 chronos and the ecu is from a mx6. Im not sure if your ecu being from a 5spd is a good idea. Regardless i would double check to make sure the vaf is actually from a 2.5 v6.

Its most likely the ECU, I never had any of these problems. I used the 2.5 VAF and 2.5 5 speed ECU. My friend had a B16 Auto ECU on his 5 speed B16 and he had those problems you're talking about except his car never cut off. Definitely get a auto ECU for a 2.5 and your problems should be solved along with alittle idle adjustment. Good luck.

I would swap you ECUs if you need one. I have an ATX ECU and need a 5 speed ECU.
